about

Mercury's Lament is a culmination of organic, home-brewed human relationships, flowing and growing ceaselessly through time.

The music on this album has seen us through new and ever evolving relationships, trauma, escape and rejuvenation. Most of the musical basis was created by Djanko and Kiah, in the following Eternal Moments:

- Watching the sun set over Uluru on Anangu country, after the Close Pine Gap protest camp.

- Witnessing shooting starts and some of the oldest rocks art in the world on Adnyamathanha land

- Countless days at the Droop House, Footscray - Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung land - kicking deflated footballs with Mercury

All four od us then shared in those moments, building them into fuller songs.

In June 2017 we recorded in a cabin in Wombat State Park, reinvigorated by the beautiful Djadjawurrung and Wurundjeri land underneath us. Erik and Jaxk masterminded this process; Emma nourished us with food. Then Kiah and Djanko went away on journeys to Turtle Island/North America, and 6 months passed with those Moments in the backs of our minds. While away, Djanko recorded on the piano that sat in his friends' home on Ohlone country, that over looked the San Francisco bay. His friends were, in some ways, the reason Lunar Flares exists, and the moment held a poetic sense of circularity that was hard to avoid.

The final overdubs, edits and mixing began in January 2018. Erik's hard work brough immediacy and clarity to what we'd captured, and it began to feel like those inital Moments were now as real as the time they had happened.

Lunar Flare respects and answeres to the eternity of which we are all apart. We remember that our ability to acces moments of truth and togetherness in this place is possible because of the ongoing attempted destruction of First Nations peoples and cultures. Mercury's Lament was created, recorded, mixed and mastered on Aboriginal Land.

SOVEREIGNTY NEVER CEDED.
